The Woman card

International Women Day is here again. There will be fresh debates with all kinds of emphatic words thrown in – feminism, domestic violence, women safety.  But, we forget to include the biggest challenge that exists for women – the woman card.

Every day, I face situations that make me feel entrapped as a woman. However, I remind myself that no biases are solid enough. I work through challenges through collaborating with supportive people – both male and female.

But, most importantly, I break stereotypes by managing myself. I challenge biases by treating both genders as equal, not using language that discriminates against any gender and by not playing the “woman card”.

So, in every task, I put equal effort as my male counterpart (more effort on those days of month). But, I am also irked by women who try to play woman card at every opportunity – be it working on project, doing household work or complying with responsibilities of a citizen.  Some women even go a step ahead- by blaming men for their wrongdoing by playing the woman card.

Real issues tend to take a backseat because of such handful women as they use false cases of harassment to get what they want. Then, even if there is the real problem of harassment, it does not get any serious consideration.

So, this Women’s day , I pray that we, women, remain the stronger ones and bring about  the change we desire rather than taking the easier way out – playing the woman card.

Demonetization and 2000 notes in India

Who would have known that I would see this day when I will dream about getting cash. The environment is dramatic with long queues outside ATMs, black money hoarders getting heart attacks, vegetable sellers relying on electronic wallets.  While the move been as much as criticized as it has been appreciated, it is different feeling to hold a pink paper bearing 2000 in your hands.
