International Women Day is here again. There will be fresh debates with all kinds of emphatic words thrown in – feminism, domestic violence, women safety. But, we forget to include the biggest challenge that exists for women – the woman card.
Every day, I face situations that make me feel entrapped as a woman. However, I remind myself that no biases are solid enough. I work through challenges through collaborating with supportive people – both male and female.
But, most importantly, I break stereotypes by managing myself. I challenge biases by treating both genders as equal, not using language that discriminates against any gender and by not playing the “woman card”.
Who would have known that I would see this day when I will dream about getting cash. The environment is dramatic with long queues outside ATMs, black money hoarders getting heart attacks, vegetable sellers relying on electronic wallets. While the move been as much as criticized as it has been appreciated, it is different feeling to hold a pink paper bearing 2000 in your hands.
What can be worse than constantly hearing the phrase “curiosity killed the cat”, when you are both curious and a great cat lover. But, it has happened. Whenever I tend to question the system, there are voices pulling me back to familiarity. Whenever I try to venture out to try something new, possibility of failure is thrust on me.
